New Years Eve at Times Square - 1989 to 1990 - from CBS! (via videoholiccollection)
Penn State may be trying to recover from its hangover due to a shellacking at Michigan the other night. What better of a way to cure that hangover though, than by facing a Northwestern team whom they have won the last six meetings against? Speaking of Northwestern and hangovers, skip to the 1:29 mark in the video above to see famed Northwestern alum Brent Musburger in what is likely his sloppiest recorded moment, ever. Pure television gold, I tell you.
Before you get cozy with the thought however, of PSU getting back on the winning track, Eric cautions in his preview from yesterday that there's a very good chance that winning streak could come to an end tonight in Evanston.
Tip off is at 7:00 PM ET and you can catch it on TV via ESPNU. Otherwise, you can listen to Steve Jones and Dick Jerardi call the action on the radio (Sirius Channel 113, XM Channel 190, or one of these local affiliates). Also, new year, same open thread rules: No porn, no derogatory comments that you wouldn't dare say in public (or to someone's face), and no links to illegal TV streams.

HAI
Hopefully Frazier cut those nails…

Oldie but goodie
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Happier times. Innocent times.
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Those pics are pure gold, Mr Rosewater.

Those were the days...
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Oh man I just looked up Navy's record
Ouch
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
I try to like Oliver, I really do.
But he just isn’t very good.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Like him for being a human being
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
A human being who isn't very good at basketball.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
he will play better when he feels loved
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
I am going to have to write him a letter.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
HEY, PENN STATE'S HITTING SHOTS.
Tim Aydin - January 1, 2012 via iPhone app
Bill O'Brien WUT???
Who The F*ck is that?
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Offensive Coordinator for the Pats.
Just like Clements, but with a better record.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Is this coming out of left field? First I've heard of it...
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
He went to Brown.
Perfect person to take over for JoePa, OBVI.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
I think it just posturing.
Making it look like something is getting done. I really do believe that they have someone already.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
a red herring to take attention off the real prospect?
Is Joyner that clever?
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
USA Today said it was almost a done deal this morning
Since then every other media outlet is just repeating that same story, which at the moment seems to be complete speculation.
I have a feeling it’s BS, but who knows.
ppfcpp - January 1, 2012
Not sure I'd agree that he has a better record
Also, for what it’s worth Joyner is denying this.
ppfcpp - January 1, 2012
Should have clarified.
Better track record as an o-coord.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Charlie Weis Part II?
without the fat of course
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
He isn't coach yet.
Start eating burgers and burritos.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Just based on looks
he doesn’t look promising
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
From what I've seen, his only success was with the Pat's
And we’ve seen how Patriots OCs have done after leaving NE.
Most of his college coaching seems like something you’d try to omit from a resume. I believe Duke went 1-22 with him as offensive coordinator and averaged only 15 points per game.
ppfcpp - January 1, 2012
Good point.
So then really they are dead even, both unproven and really shouldn’t be looked at.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Pretty much my feelings
If he ends up being the guy then to me it says that either:
1. This job is REALLY toxic
2. The committee just decided to give PSU fans the finger.
ppfcpp - January 1, 2012
BUT HE WENT TO BROWNNNNNNNNNNNN.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Yeah, if it's BIll Belichek then I'd be elated
Other than that, Pat’s coaches just seem to be riding Belichek’s coattails
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
If you watched a Football Story (I'm guessing you didn't)
Belichick and Brady sit in his office alone and review tapes and draw up plays. Weis, McDaniels, OBrien have never had a seat at the table.
OBrien was QB coach during a season after McDaniel left, and BB didn’t name him OC. He left the OC position officially vacant. Sound like the guy you want coaching your team?
PSUinBOSSton - January 1, 2012
You mean Belichick or O'Brien?
Belichick I guess yes. O’Brien? My gut says no.
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
OBrien.
Do you want the guy whose head coach chose VACANCY over him for his OC for a period of time? And then one preseason after tons of questions, gave him the title by basically going, “Oh, yeah, I guess you could say Billy is our O coordinator.”
If you said I had to pick a former BB
PSUinBOSSton - January 1, 2012
If you said I had to pick a former BB OC,
I would take Weis. That’s how sad it is. At least Weis is an accomplished author.
PSUinBOSSton - January 1, 2012
Ah, gotcha
I seriously just heard of this news. Kind of surprising.
Hopefully it’s just Joyner leading the mothership astray.
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Rob Bolden starting
We already lost…
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Not necessarily.
Yeah, he’s teh suck. But any of his “good” games in his career have been against defenses exactly like Houston’s. So there’s some hope.
dbl5030 - January 1, 2012
I guess NW is good?
They have a good record.
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Meh.
Bottom half of the B1G.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
They're alright
They still lack the rebounding and post play needed to get over the NCAA Tourney hump.
Tim Aydin - January 1, 2012 via iPhone app
This NW team
looks like a collection of some Eastern European mafia goons.
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
1990...good times
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
referencing the Mushburger video
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Woodyard with a three!
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Trey is getting thrown around this game.
Dude is hitting the floor hard.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
so far so good
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Score?
AriesGD - January 1, 2012
26-23 at the half
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
PSU leading
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Thanks
AriesGD - January 1, 2012
Now it's 28-28
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
These idiots at ESPN
are going to look SO dumb when O’Brien isn’t coaching Penn State.
dbl5030 - January 1, 2012
they already look dumb
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Okay, just stop with the NW tourney hopes talk
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Frazier has some major ups.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
I COME TO MAKE FUN OF NORTHWESTERN'S STUPID PURPLE COURT.
But it’s kind of nice. They almost went with an all-purple everywhere look.
Chris Grovich - January 1, 2012
It looks like someone colored it using a magic marker
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
I can't stand it
The purple looks like it was filled in with crayons
runngunn29 - January 1, 2012
That's what I kind of like about it.
I like that they kept the lines of the hardwood flooring instead of just dumping purple paint everywhere.
Chris Grovich - January 1, 2012
Lord, Sasa. Just go up with it.
None of this “double clutching with nobody around me” crap.
Chris Grovich - January 1, 2012
Dude can't dunk.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
NW on a roll here
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Fans put down their books
and now are making some noise
runngunn29 - January 1, 2012
Interesting way of emphasizing academics
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Ugh. Chambers holding out for the under-12 timeout and gets burned.
Chris Grovich - January 1, 2012
These 3s are not helping
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Crawford is unstoppable right now.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
wow i never thought I'd see Northwestern have an alley-oop
runngunn29 - January 1, 2012
Well...
This has swiftly turned into a giant clusterfuck.
Tim Aydin - January 1, 2012 via iPhone app
Billy Oliver can not cover Crawford.
No way in hell is that happening.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
That foul was on Oliver.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
His 5th.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
How are you still in there?
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Billy?
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
They charged that one to Glover.
That is why.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Sometime
I want to root for the team that gets the calls FOR them
never seems to happen though.
SCsprinter13 - January 1, 2012
I feel like an idiot following @Sekrah
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Damn you, DeChellis!!!
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Trey Lewis will be good.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
I would like to see NU make it to the dance.
Just once.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
I would also like to see Marshall make one...
Just one.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
HOOOORAAAAAAYYYY!!
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Congrats NU.
TheSwish - January 1, 2012
Oh well...
Mr. Rosewater - January 1, 2012
Score?
Wait, I assume we lost…nevermind
AriesGD - January 1, 2012
Is anyone still around?
I haven’t been on BSD in forever it seems!
Paige2PSU - January 1, 2012
No
AriesGD - January 1, 2012
Well, this hurts.
Unfortunately, we’d better get used to this night and night out. Until a couple other guys besides Frazier, Marshall, and Woodyard step up scoring-wise, results like tonight’s will be the norm. Hopefully Trey Lewis and Ross Travis can be those guys.
Really though, defense was abysmal in the second half, which is what helped spark Northwestern’s run to put this one out of reach.
