How many teams get to see their newly-hired head coach in action a week after getting the job. For those of you like me who aren't big NFL fans, we get to see just what kind of offense Bill O'Brien calls for New England. And for the rest of you, also like me, who previously had a less-than-amicable relationship with the Pats... well, let's suck it up and cheer for #PSUBOB.
Standard open thread rules. But especially today--for obvious OMLASJCTEBOW reasons--keep religion OUT of this thread. We will be watching, so think about your comments before posting them, please.

Tonight we have one goal
Determine a nickname for Bill O’Brien.
speedomike - January 14, 2012
Done
BOBSled
Artiefufkin10 - January 14, 2012
Feel the rhythm
Fell the rhyme! Get on up it’s BOBsled time. COOL RUNNINGS!
The Mustard Tiger - January 14, 2012 via Android app
Said in Jamaican accent "PENN STATE BOBSLED TEAM"
Artiefufkin10 - January 14, 2012
Eh
I like it. Still think we can do better.
speedomike - January 14, 2012
Idk,
I really like BOBsled. Twists and turns and excitement and people have died trying it!
psuwxman - January 14, 2012
Coach Butt Chin
Artiefufkin10 - January 14, 2012
BOB, BOB, BOB
BOB, BOBarann! Went to a dance, lookin’ for romance, saw BOBarann so I thought I’d take a chance . . . .
Oops, sorry, guys; channeling the Beach Boys again . . . .

Spent 15 years getting loaded, 15 years till his liver exploded, what’s BOB gonna do now that he can’t drink?
PSU_sincebirth - January 14, 2012
Shout out to ya, sincebirth!
Enjoying the posting life better than the lurking life?
What’s your opinion: Pats lose so we can get BOB sooner, or win it all so he has a SB ring to wave in recruits’ faces?
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
I hate the Pats but..win a super bowl
Simms already giving him tons of credit and we could have two more games of this..
PSU_sincebirth - January 14, 2012
And yes much better then creepin
PSU_sincebirth - January 14, 2012
I'm pretty new, too,
but am absolutely addicted to this place.
My wife just set up her profile this week — she enjoys how things wander all over.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Yeah, I'm learning the same way.
Pats are putting on a clinic tonight, and BOB will be able to claim some defensive cred: “My offensive guys executed really well, and it let the defense tee off. See how one squad supports the other? Come to Penn State, and enjoy the success!”
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Yes, I like that sales pitch
As an Eagles fan still smarting from ‘04 who never much cared for the Pats prior, it’s been a bit tough for me to swallow rooting for them this post-season, but I’m buying to the Super Bowl ring as recruiting tool.
PSU_Buch - January 14, 2012
Penn State first,
Steelers second. I can cheer for the Pats — this post-season.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Yep.
PSU_Buch - January 14, 2012
Rec'd...
For the NOFX reference.
eternalpessimist - January 15, 2012
By far my favorite
Gonna be his third and 15, runs a screen name or end around name.
PSU_sincebirth - January 14, 2012
Shit
I have to root for the Patriots.
skarocksoi - January 14, 2012
Ew...no...
Can’t root for New England. Plus, BOB gets to us faster with a loss.
Jitterbug - January 14, 2012
As long as it's the Pat's defense that loses it for them.
I don’t care.
mvrck - January 14, 2012
like what i see so far
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
Anybody see the end to the Niners Saints game?
That was crazy
Lion Eyes - January 14, 2012
Agreed
Nothing like 5 lead changes in the fourth quarter to suck you in.

Vernon Davis is truly a man’s man
Truck O'Saurus - January 14, 2012 via Android app
Which is why he cried as grown men do after the game winning TD
skarocksoi - January 14, 2012
Impromptu poll
Broncos win, and we get BoB?
Pats win, and recruits are maybe impressed a little.
I think I want BoB now.
Truck O'Saurus - January 14, 2012 via Android app
I have been flip flopping
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
agreed, I see both sides
Cari Greene - January 14, 2012
Want BOB to get a ring
iamkatemcg - January 14, 2012
He's our coach
And I can’t root against PSU’s coach under any circumstances.
Also, I hate the Patriots.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
hahahahahha
hernandez in the backfield and breaks off a run for 40 some yards. lol bill o. I call Adam Breneman a LOCK for 2013 (he will be a 5 star i am guessing from his offers so far).
TJM5054 - January 14, 2012
I was too busy watching the Niners game to see the preview of the Pats game
Did they mention O’Brien?

@ARobinsonPSU I’m leaning towards it ;)
TJM5054 - January 14, 2012
I like.
psuwxman - January 14, 2012
Too early
To be excited about the offense? When was the last time we scored in under two minutes? On the first possession no less.
PS06 - January 14, 2012
2009 vs. iowa
DC17 to Chaz, how’d that work out for us?
Frank O'Brien - January 14, 2012
QB14
First pass as starter.
McGloin
First pass of his career
…. Yeah, not sure I like that trend.
psuwxman - January 14, 2012
C'mon man! QB14 pwn'd the Zips and always will
Frank O'Brien - January 14, 2012
Sadly, we couldn't play the Zips every game.

psuwxman - January 14, 2012
But is Tom Brady
Really that much better than either of those guys?
PS06 - January 14, 2012
I had such high hopes for that night
after that pass
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
In 1994, none of our drives seemed to take longer than 2 minutes
But that was half a lifetime ago.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Amen brudda
The first play from scrimmage in the ‘95 Rose Bowl was the first one that popped in my head when 06 posed the question. Back when kijana’s acl was still intact.
Frank O'Brien - January 14, 2012
Down here, I only saw about half of the games that year.
Early in the conference season, I would see these scores roll across the bottom of the screen ticker: What is it? Late third quarter? And then something like 11:54, 1st Q would roll by.
Still, my favorite all-time Penn State offensive performance did not come from this team. Instead it was the Sacca-BYU Holiday Bowl.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
With my man, Gary Brown,
Williamsport High, ripping the ball out of Detmer’s hands and taking it to the house!
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
My favorite play of that Holiday Bowl was the Collins XP return
Frank O'Brien - January 14, 2012
I was here in NC with my in-laws that year
and had to call my brother (PSU Class of 75) for a score. When he told me the Cougars had scored 39 points, my heart stopped — I thought there was no way we won. Then when he said we had scored 50, I was shocked!
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
It was just like playing Flutie all over again
Frank O'Brien - January 14, 2012
Bad memories of Flutie.
I was at State and then lived in State College from 1981 – 1988. Didn’t like us playing BC when he was there.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
This was the year that I learned that Joe wasn't the 79' Sugar Bowl predictable Joe I had thought.
The Holiday Bowl prepared me for the NFL offense of 94. Specifically, the over-the-top throws down field at an increased frequency. Something about the Lions’ offense in 94 reminds me still of the 79 and 80 Steeler teams. Here comes Franco. Here comes Rocky. Oops, you forgot about Stallworth/Swann on the fly. Kijana is Franco and Rocky. Engram and Scott are Stallworth and Swann. And I guess Brady is Bennie Cunningham. Hartings as Webster really resonates for me.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
And I forgot the most important part:
Kerry is Terry. They have a bunch of the same attitude. Plus, they have both recorded country music. Bradshaw put out a album of covers that we all owned for camp value alone. It was the sort of thing that was played at excessive volume at two or three am.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
That's funny!
Never considered the Kerry = Terry thing, but can see it clearly now.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Illinois 2011
McGloin took the Lions down the field down 7-3 and scored with about a buck 20 left or so. Moye was was suppose to be out came up huge with an injured ankle.
dcant21 - January 15, 2012
Belicheck looks like a hobo
BOB better step it up in the wardrobe department
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
you can look like a hobo...
when you have 5 SB rings (3 as HBC). It’s like being pajama rich.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
.
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
that's funny.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
Nice hoodie
.. ya get a free bowl of soup with that?
Sorry – it just bugs me, too.
cs93 - January 14, 2012
The reason for the hoodie...
Belicheck feels as though all coaches should wear suits, but the NFL requires coaches to wear Reebok gear with their team on it. Therefore, he makes his stuff look ridiculous to spite the NFL.
Off the field, he is an extremely classy dresser.
Nick7 - January 14, 2012
So he protests in the same way that a 11-year-old girl who can't get her ears pierced would?
That seems reasonable. Also, he’s a cheater who hasn’t won a damn thing since he was caught cheating.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
I wonder about the cheating.
Several Steelers from the 9/11-OMG-young-Brady season assert that they would have played the Rams in the Super Bowl but for that. My memories are of a catastrophic special teams breakdown having nothing to do with the cinematography project.
I wonder still.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
I think the spying is overblown.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
I would agree
If he hadn’t been terrible in Cleveland or, you know, won since he hasn’t been allowed to do it. Other than that though, sure, overblown.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
They went undefeated after that...
and lost a Super Bowl due to a dropped interception by Samuel and the Tyree catch. Their offense hasn’t stopped being good. They haven’t won a Super Bowl since because they haven’t been very good on defense since the mid 2000s.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
I didn't say they were bad
just that they cheated. For how long? Only God, Belichick and Goodell know.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
meh....
the advantage gained, if any, was minimal.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
I think Brady is good and they would have won a lot of games with him
Probably even a Super Bowl or three, but the fact is that we’ll never know and there’s nothing else like it in football. Kind of like saying the ‘51 Giants didn’t really benefit from stealing signs for half a season, except that it won them a pennant.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
How do you quantify it?
They were a good team with a very good to great quarterback, but you’d have to think it’s an advantage to know what the other team is doing on even 10% of their plays, right?
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
I don't think they really..
used it in real time.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
Then why did they do it?
Everyone uses game tape for prep. Why would they tape signals if not to use the information in real time?
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
because they could.
They’ve been far better on offense since Spygate, so they weren’t getting much of an advantage.
Esteban d' Amur - January 15, 2012
they won 3 super bowls...
…by a combined 9 points and made it to one on the tuck rule. A minimal advantage is huge in a game of inches
moosepsu - January 14, 2012 via Android app
it's only cheating if you get caught....
Oh wait
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
In Jersey everthing is legal,
as long as you don’t get caught.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Even as a Jets fan
I think it’s been overblown as to the magnitude of advantage gained. But, there should always be huge penalties for getting caught cheating.
bubba0077 - January 15, 2012
well then...
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
Nick7 - Thanks
I’m not an NFL follower so thanks for educating me.
Too bad he can’t just get a suit with a Reebok logo on the front pocket.
cs93 - January 14, 2012
They tried to negotiate that.
It was dependent on reebok developing a line of suits that would end up being available for sale to the public. Reebok made them, did marketing testing, and killed the project, so no suits for coaches.
PSUinBOSSton - January 15, 2012
why does it matter what he wears?
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
psuwxman and I have been having this discussion on Twitter
I believe that unless Morningwheg is a stud next year or PJ finally get his head on straight, the genius of the Bill O’Brien offense won’t be felt until 2013 when a competent QB can run it. 2012 will be meh unless there is a QB who can get the ball to playmakers.
Thoughts from the rest of the BSD crowd?
Dan Vecellio - January 14, 2012
I sadly must agree
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
I think they will..
be better on offense in 2012 than 2011.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
I think Sister Mary's School for the Blind
will be better on offense in 2012 as well.
psuwxman - January 14, 2012
Part of that discussion hinges on Bolden, as well.
I’m more optimistic than he is that he can regain his shattered confidence and psyche. This, hopefully, should help to straighten out his mechanics and decision making process.
psuwxman - January 14, 2012
disagree
according to BOB, he’s not going to run this specific offense he runs with the Pats. His “gameplan” offense takes into account the skills of the players involved as well as the opposing defenses. I suspect next year will still be run heavy, and in the future it will depend on what talent we have. Perhaps at some point it looks like the Pats current system, but not anytime soon. I’m also not saying it will/wont be effective next year as the QB is still an issue, but if we have a good running QB I would imagine he would use that, or switch to a pass heavy scheme with a dropback qb.
skarocksoi - January 14, 2012
I tend to give the nod
that under new tutelage, Mac’s more ill-advised tendancies could be mimimized a bit more than what appears to be lack of self confidence with RB.
My pure guess is that if PJ gets all things academic under control, and can compete in the spring, B/W game and in the late summer practices – he’d get the nod.
BlueWhiteLife - January 14, 2012
According to hom on twitter,
All he needs is .2 of a credit to be eligible, so it’s possible.

icavalera - January 14, 2012
It could have done that this past season if it was played.
BMAN13 - January 15, 2012
Barring a Morningweig/PJ miracle
I actually think McGloin gets the nod. He’s proven himself capable of making short yardage passes. Provided the new staff can suppress the urge to go derp, he could be a fair if not worldbeating QB.
PS06 - January 14, 2012
Fair was what he was this year
I think he gets the nod unless PJ is clearly better. I really doubt that a rookie coach would go with a true freshman quarterback.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012

SubLime - January 14, 2012
Hey, SubLime, been meaning
to ask: What do LSU fans think of Joe Alleva? He’s the only guy who left Duke after the lacrosse thing — even tho there should have been more. He seems to have landed on his feet, but was curious if people even know of his connection with Duke lacrosse.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
They love him.
Just win baby.
They were more than a bit freaked out with the Alleva to Tennessee rumors last summer.
Check back tomorrow and the verdict might change. These folks don’t stick to anything for long.

yes i realize that which is y I made the comment
psualum9931 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
Not this year, but we've had some good ones.
I think Kent Taylor will live to regret committing to Florida. Both he and the #2 TE prospect appear to be headed there, and with BOB using Gronk I would have thought one of the good TE’s would lean towards us.
Not too late, of course; maybe BOB can call Kent . . .

Could be.
He didn’t seem to pan out. Spleen injury didn’t help, but I felt like he acted like he was spoiled.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
He was shown up again and again
by Major Applewhite. Simms looked like a stud on paper, but Major was the scrapper who won big games. If you needed a guy to hang 40 on Baylor or Kansas, Simms was your guy. Now beating Nebraska or Oklahoma by 3? Not so much. That’s why they simply couldn’t keep Applewhite on the bench; he was the better option.
PSU_Buch - January 14, 2012

PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
no..
I don’t follow recruiting.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
Don't blame you.
I try to be realistic about it most years, but with all the turmoil it has become one of my gauges for BOB’s potential success. If he can “save” this class, that will help me breathe a tad easier.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
yeah...
I generally don’t follow it until the class is signed. then I might read an article or two on it. I have no interest in pre-college kids twitter thoughts. I do follow some PSU players and Nova b-ball players, but that’s it.
Esteban d' Amur - January 14, 2012
Being redundant:
I think the star system focuses too much on the here-and-now, and doesn’t gauge continued growth/future potential.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
From the Twitter
@rmusselmanppg Ron Musselman
And now we get a local commerical where Bill O’Brien is promoting Penn State during the Patriots playoff game. How ironic?
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
So Ron Musselman doesn't know what irony is?
Good to know.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Irony is like tragedy.
I frequently hear stories on local TV such as “four children between the ages of two and 10 were tragic victims of a fiery crash on I-10 in St. James Parish last night.”
These kids had a fatal flaw that resulted in them bringing about their own demise?
No.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
A lot of that is poor editing.
Like, “Murder Victim Released from Prison on Sunday”
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
How should that read?
I’m serious, I can’t think of a reading that makes any sense. I should probably add that I’m on my manyth beer.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
It is a wonderful syntactic puzzle.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Maybe something such as
“Released from Prison on Sunday, Victim Murdered on Monday”
IDK, ACL, the headline I quoted just struck me as being wrong.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
That makes sense
Time for another Southern Tier.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Maybe released from prison Sunday, stops murder Monday?
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
Or "Stops a bullet on Monday"
since the person in question was the victim.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
It's more a complete ignorance of what tragedy is.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
I think that word may have changed accepted meanings some time ago
To get what you’re going for you probably have to add “Greek” so that a newspaper reader would understand your meaning.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
You are right. It has.
And I realize that language is dynamic. When I was a kid "gay’ didn’t really carry any implication of sexual orientation. Yet, for whatever reason, tragedy evokes some sort of “get off of my lawn” response in me.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Shoot, the 1890's
were known as the “Gay 90’s”, because they were a release from the Victorian moral code, not for the current usage.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
There's a great South Park
about the evolution of the term now used as a derogatory for gay that begins with an f. Goes along with what you are saying and is a fantastic episode if anyone likes the show, and doesn’t like loud motorcycles.
James - January 14, 2012
Van Morrison used to sing about "lighting up a fag."
The idea of sharing a fag is quite different in Britain than in the US.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
My buddies and I used to use
fag instead of cigarette. It made us laugh every time too. real mature.
tlrpsu - January 14, 2012
I am reading Paul Fussell's
“The Great War and Modern Memory” and he mentions how “twat” evolved from meaning a forest clearing to — well, something else.
English is a VERY dynamic language.

More Twitter
Nate Stupar does not care for this game
AQ is asking where are the Tebow fans now
and our friend BWare predicts that Tebowmania is over
No Tweets from Cam Williams or Nyeen Wartman (the only two I follow)

If anyone is near Asbury Park
GO THERE NOW. Bruce is playing in a bar
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012

letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
That's actually cool.
I’m only 1500 miles away.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Wait WUT?
That’s where I’m from, all of my friends are home from college. Tell me which bar so I can tweet it out to them! Is it the Stone Pony????"
psuwxman - January 14, 2012
BOB MENTION!
Mo Humphrey - January 14, 2012
Yep
Very positive. There will be more of this as they will have a LOT of time to kill.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Simms thinks BOB is a tremendous coach and PSU has a lot to look forward to
Hopefully this is more accurate than his replay predictions
Mo Humphrey - January 14, 2012
I belive by "Penn State Fans who were negative"
he means LaVar and Brandon
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
Simms is an idiot.
/My entry for obvious statement of 2012.

OK, but I don't shave on Saturdays
so don’t schedule any personal appearances on those days.

I could just schedule the West Virginia trip then?
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
And I will leave out my dental work for that trip.
Q: How do you know the toothbrush was invented in West VA?
A: Anywhere else, they would have called it a “Teethbrush”.

Probably just jizzed in his pants
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
there was a tweet from him earlier today
he said he was leaning towards PSU
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
yeah
That’s kind of why I said that. Hopefully he’ll be a beast with us.
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
Would like to grab Kent Taylor
away from Florida. Gators on track to get him (#1 TE recruit) and #2 TE recruit.
Breneman’s a 2013 kid, right?
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Indeed
Rogue Nine - January 14, 2012
Should probably call Taylor tomorrow
or, better yet, send him a DVD of tonight’s game with a handwritten note.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Is it a violation if Gronk sent
KT that note?
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
When do the lots open for the BW game?
CvilleLion - January 14, 2012
Devin Fuller?
Has anyone heard the result of BOB contacting him?
Cadderly18 - January 14, 2012
Negative.
Was watching a program earlier that showed him still uncommitted — that’s good for us, even though I don’t think we have been in the driver’s seat for him.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Yea
I read somewhere that he was “all ears” if BOB wanted to call him because he was intrigued by the hire.
Cadderly18 - January 14, 2012
Had not heard that!
Good news that I hope gets better!!
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
Can BOB text recruits from the sideline?
This is getting out of hand
Mo Humphrey - January 14, 2012
Can he get on the plane to State College now?
It’s not like he has any more work to do in Foxboro.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Tweet from parody BOB account
@evilbillobrien Evil Bill O’Brien
Not sure I know the etiquette on when a coach who did more than enough to win is allowed to leave. I could get to Penn State for last call
letsgopsu - January 14, 2012
Jinx
Kind of.
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
Does anyone know if it was confirmed if Cam was at the game tonight?
Cari Greene - January 14, 2012
BoB needs to go off on Brady . . .
Right fucking now. Get some camera. Let all future college football players know that “I am a badass.” C’mon BoB, emasculate him for the world to see.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
from the score it doesn't look like Brady deserves emasculating
if he was playing for shit, I’d be all for it, but he seems to be doing well. And yelling at him them seems like a douchea move.
Cari Greene - January 14, 2012
I know he doesn't.
I just want our guy to grandstand — throw some street-cred.
Of course, I’m not really serious. It would embarrass me for a Penn State coach to be so self-indulgent.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
He could emasculate him...
for the Uggs and shitty haircut he had ealier this year. If I were a recruit I’d be on board with that.
James - January 14, 2012
That's the idea.
Man, I’m torn on this. There is a big part of me that would like to see the Twitter universe blow up with some BoB-in-Brady’s-face shit.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Brady and BOB need to hug as men do
when this game is over.
CvilleLion - January 14, 2012
Start now
and make sure the cameras are running.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
From the looks of this game
I would say BOB has emasculated the whole Denver team
Nectir - January 14, 2012
But what about Bolden?
kijana's acl - January 14, 2012
I'd say after this game
Tebow might commit to us

‘well this isn’t the way anyone thought this game would go’
Actually jim, I did. I think many people did.
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
This is why I usually have the sound off.
Just hoping to hear some BOB/PSU crumbs, but these guys are tough to listen to. Another quarter of bilge to listen to . . . .
PSU_Lions_84 - January 14, 2012
the best thing nantz ever did in his career
was the perfect week episode in how I met your mother.
jls83 - January 14, 2012 via iPhone app
One more Pat's score and...
You should be hearing a lot of non-game blather from these announcers. Looks like Denver’s defense has quit for the night already.
Nectir - January 14, 2012
So with the game very much decided...
Anybody drinking anything good tonight? I’m personally going with some Christmas Ale from Bells Brewery in Michigan. They make some damn fine beers.
James - January 14, 2012
I really like Oberon, too bad it's seasonal
psualum9931 - January 14, 2012
Oberon
and their IPA are my favorites. I do wish you could get the Oberon year round.
James - January 14, 2012
I just blew up...
Two bottles of Malbec and at an 18 ounce dry aged Ribye.
jesse. - January 14, 2012
That sounds like a decent way to spend an evening.
James - January 14, 2012
Yeah.
I make a bad ass steak, but this was a beautiful piece of meat. A playboy bunny in my decidedly Larry Flint kitchen.
jesse. - January 14, 2012
I went much less classy
than the steak and wine and went with beer and chili. I think I’d gladly trade for the dry aged ribeye.
James - January 14, 2012
The meat was a present from my Wife.
Medium Rare (although I missed it by a few degrees toward medium, which is actually how I like it, but I digress), seasoned with sea salt and crushed black pepper corns. Took the Au Jus, and cut it with a bit of A-1 and a big assed baked potato.
Ate it off a wood cutting board. And if you’ve never ate a bad ass steak on a wood cutting board, well, that’s the way to do it.
jesse. - January 14, 2012
i had a cheeseburger from pollock
tlrpsu - January 15, 2012

jesse. - January 15, 2012
Indulge an old guy for a second.
One of the most influential things I ever heard in my life….
Me and buddy were kids, like 21, in college, and we were at the distributor with his Dad. He asked for a case of beer and the guy said they had it, but it was $50 (gasp) a case. His response; “I didn’t go to graduate school so I could worry about the price of a case of beer”.
In it’s way, it was high motivational.
jesse. - January 15, 2012
That is motivational.
Although I only have to deal with pollock food for 4 more months. Then its off to the real world. Its bittersweet. It’s gonna be nice to have a real income thats for sure. But it will suck not getting to be here all the time.
tlrpsu - January 15, 2012
I chopped up a chiltepin pepper fromthe bush I've got out back
and folded it into about a half cup of that chili dog sauce recipe Mel put up last year — it was frozen. After adding some finely chopped onion, wrapping the prepped dogs in foil to steam (Italian sausage style), and finishing with some mustard, I had one of my favorite meals. The chiltepin gave it the most wonderfully warm heat. Hot; not bitter.
So I guess I’m eating Big Butts food in a Larry Flint kitchen.
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Did you grow Tepins?
I did too.
They were good. Stinkin’ hot for their size. But the bush was too big for my garden against the yield of peppers. I just killed the last of my fresh ghost chilies in a Chicago Pizza yesterday. They are pretty much an irreplaceable ingredient. Dried powdered GC’s are nearly $25 an ounce.
And I’ve had to cook for Mel, so…something.
jesse. - January 14, 2012
Yeah,
I’ve got a bush I put on the back fence line — it’s not in the garden with the rest of the pepper plants. But, all of these things thrive down here. Hard freeze?, Fuck You Hard Freeze. They are wonderful.
SubLime - January 15, 2012
The Bhut is the bitchiest plant I've ever owned.
But that fucker is in a pot in front of a window. Alive. My Wife has cats, and I have plants. I had a Basil plant named Daryl Clark, which was a legend, but eventually he died.
jesse. - January 15, 2012
We've had the same Basil plant since just past Katrina/Rita.
In this climate, basil is almost virulent — it replicates as a zombie. Our coldest day of the year is usually something like three consecutive days with six hours overnight of 29.
I desperately need a hard freeze. The mosquitoes require at least token resistance. I’m out of chemicals. It’s January for Christ’s sake.
SubLime - January 15, 2012
Drinkin some of that fine Chinese beer
Ying-Ling lager, straight from Pottsville
Nectir - January 14, 2012

Believe it or not
I had a Frat Bro with the last name of Yingling. And he wasn’t Asian! Sadly/Obviously not Yuengling :-(
PaJoe - January 14, 2012 via mobile
that's what I had last night
They were $2 domestic drafts…but Yeungling wasn’t on the list. When I questioned the waitress about its, she said that everyone asked why that was but I didn’t press her.
They should have a disclaimer: “$2 domestic drafts!!* *except for the beer you know you all want”
Cari Greene - January 15, 2012
I had a bar pull that stunt on me once
with something like Michelob Amber Bock. And another time with LaBatts, which while technically is an import, seemed weak to me.
cs93 - January 15, 2012
Can't wait for McGloin's 60 yard quick kicks next season
Dan Vecellio - January 14, 2012
BoB should have rushed in, slapped the interviewer, and boxed Brady's ears accompanied by an Obscenity and Profanity laced tirade.
I’m drunk and in my mind exploring heel turn as the new PSU football trope.:)
SubLime - January 14, 2012
Alright
I have might been drinking, so I am not oging ot read all these comments, since I can’t consentrate on them corretly.
Do we like Bob more or less? And yeah we need a better nickname for him. We go from a strong, JoePa, to bob, just not doing it for me.
My take is that the pats really gamplaned for the broncos’ and knew exactly how to attack their weaknesses, something i hope we can do next year, especially against OSU, screw them, i want to drop another 63 on them suns of biactchs.
Aries….out.

BOB it is! not bobbitt....nor bobsled...not BYOB...nor billybob...etc., et al...
Looking east from deep in my coyote den in the mtns. of cowboy land, appears all is well in lionland…Praise be to BOB! And…according to wordsmiths the world over, the established nickname for Bill O’Brien is BOB, soon to be chronicled as such by the 2012 edition, Oxford Acronyms for Proper Nouns (OAPN).
wyoblue - January 15, 2012
But can we still say that we're "riding the BOBsled"?
…when we start pummeling our opponents? I just like the imagery there.

Anybody else notice who took the photo above? Really, we’re all the Sandusky’s busy?
Any chance we get a transfer QB, like Wisconsin did last year?

I hope high school TEs are watching the Pats, Coach Billy O should get a couple of TEs every year…..
dcant21 - January 15, 2012
I'm glad Jesse James,
2012 TE recruit, is already enrolled, but wouldn’t mind adding another TE to this year’s batch.
PSU_Lions_84 - January 15, 2012
So what coaches are around this weekend babysitting all the visiting recruits?
Besides, I assume, Vandy and LJSR. Anybody know?
