Went to the Capitol One Bowl in 2010
Couldn’t make the trip to Tuscaloosa that season, but of course was in Happy Valley for this year’s game. I can definitely report enjoying the experience of taking in a game with both these schools’ fans. Good-natured people who know and love their college football and get into it just as much as Penn State fans; I really had no negative experiences with either.
Having seen the good guys go 1-1 in games I attended, I can report enjoying the opposing fans at both. I really wish we played H/H’s with SEC teams more often, as I know both sides would relish it. I guess with the upcoming PAC-__ partnership (which I like), we won’t be seeing too much of it outside bowl games. Pity.
Having made the same games plus the trip to T-town, the fans are great and quite knowledgable. It really is a shame we don’t play against the SEC more. I wish we would have made a Big10-SEC instead, and not just because the road games would make great road trips.
I’m at least pleased that BOB hired 2 of our best 3 recruiters…..you have to figure that he wants his own staff ultimately, so I’ll be happy for the moment.
They’re both getting paid well (I’d assume) and may be comfortable where they are. Job security right now is more important that position imo… Plus our D was definitely worse under LJ/RV than under Bradley (though it was a small sample size) so they may be better suited as position coaches.
Go guys have been keeping my sanity (mostly) since November and after the new member grace period I wasn’t as pissed and didn’t need to vent. Just been lurking.
Meaning that their offenses and defenses were very similarly run. When that happens the game is much closer and can turn on a single error or such, just like the ’08 PSU OSU game, very similar teams and all was determined by the fumble.
If Ok State and LSU were matched up, you have a dynaic offense, which bama didn’t have but easily moved the ball on LSU, and a mediocre offense of LSU against an average Ok State defense. Much better game.
Again, we will never know how it would have paned out.
I don't need to see OK St. play LSU to know how it would have turned out.
LSU’s offense, as bad as it was last night (me thinks Bama’s defense had much to do with that), was not mediocre this year. It was 17th in scoring, while Ok St. was 2nd. Compare that with the defenses, where LSU was ranked 2nd, and Ok St. was 61st. So the 2nd scoring offense faces off against the 2nd scoring defense….while the 17th scoring offense faces the 61st scoring defense.
The numbers also ignore the significant special teams edge LSU has over Ok St.
Btw, Alabma had the 20th ranked offense to go along with 1st ranked defense. Additionally, two keys to Alabama’s offensive success was LSU having to respect Trent Richardson’s abilities, something from which a one-dimentional air raid attack would not benefit, and the LSU offense’s inability to keep its defense off of the field, something the awful Ok. St. defense would not reproduce.
Ok. St.‘s argument died with their loss to Iowa St. Neither one of the teams on the field last night would ever…and I mean ever…lose to seven-loss Iowa St. team (I don’t mean programs, but those specific teams).
I do agree, however, that it’s too bad all of the other conferences resisted the SEC’s and ACC’s attempt to instill a “+1” the last time the BCS contract was negotiated.
How does that explain Ok State losing to Iowa State?
Rankings and stats mean nothing when the game actually starts. Just ask Miami in 1986 if they were going ot win the game against PSU based upon stats alone.
Plain and simple, games are played to settle who is better, not looking at a piece of paper to determine that stuff, thats why upsets happen.
PSU losing by 16 points, Miss St losing by 17 points, LSU losing by 18 points. I’m doubting that will cause the voters to pick us #2 but still an interesting stat.
If you ignored the points and just looked at the stats from the first game, you’d have thought Alabama won by 10-14 points.
Not a knock on LSU. They beat 3 different teams who won BCS bowl games this year, 2 in genuine road games (@ Alabama and @ WVU) and won a neutralish site game against Oregon. Toss in beating the crap out of Georgia and Arkansas, and you’re talking about one of the most impressive 1 loss teams to ever not win the MNC, even if I think this team would get killed by ’05 PSU.

Totally agree

LegalLion - January 9, 2012
I lived in sec country
And they have great fans. I would much rather play H/H with he sec. Plus it’s much easier to travel down then the wholevwy across the county.
PSU_sincebirth - January 9, 2012
My VOLS lost to both this year
what a schedule playing LSU Bama, Arkansas, S Carolina and UGA
But I’m favoring the Tigers – just can’t stand Bama
aurabass - January 9, 2012
Thoughts on Dooley?
PSU_Buch - January 9, 2012
If he doesn't win 8 next year he's gone
aurabass - January 9, 2012
I don’t know that it matters who you play so long as Dooley’s roaming your sidelines.
Uhaul - January 9, 2012
You may be right
losing to KY and then losing most of his coaching staff makes him look like a LAME DUCK already
aurabass - January 9, 2012

Hoping for 9-6 Bama in OT
Because screw the BCS that’s why!
bigs26 - January 9, 2012 via iPhone app
The other conferences should have supported the +1 when the SEC & ACC tried to implement it the last time around.

2011 College Football Season
Almost over. Thank God. For the first time in my life, thanks God.
letsgopsu - January 9, 2012
It's official
The worst college football season ever
Mr. Rosewater - January 9, 2012
Can someone tell me ..
Why LJ or Vandy isn’t the DC? I have really liked the moves that BOB has made till that one.
PSU_Brian - January 9, 2012
Let's just say that......
I’m at least pleased that BOB hired 2 of our best 3 recruiters…..you have to figure that he wants his own staff ultimately, so I’ll be happy for the moment.
DerryPharmer - January 9, 2012
Paterno's coaching staff are so egoless it's borderline insanity
I know I’d be PISSED if they wanted me on without a promotion.
Mr. Rosewater - January 9, 2012
On the other hand
They’re both getting paid well (I’d assume) and may be comfortable where they are. Job security right now is more important that position imo… Plus our D was definitely worse under LJ/RV than under Bradley (though it was a small sample size) so they may be better suited as position coaches.
Kyle_Martin - January 9, 2012
Tide wins the first quarter and they are moving
LSU better man up quck
aurabass - January 9, 2012
Not watching
Nope. Screw em.
06Lion - January 9, 2012
Over/Under for final score
20
Who is takin?
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
Bama at the half has the total they scored in the first game
but I think you have to put it at 16 to get much action
aurabass - January 9, 2012
Okay new over under
3 TD’s scored in this game?
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
Well under.
Kyle_Martin - January 9, 2012
Damn final score 21
Just missed that one
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
I'm sick
Of hearing about the Hiney Badger. He’s a step late on everything tonight.

Long-time lurking is where it’s at!
PSU_Buch - January 9, 2012
welcome
letsgopsu - January 9, 2012
I love how they try and trout out his numbers
Like they are the best ever.
2 int’s
6 forced fumbles
5 pass breakups
Am I supposed to be impressed?
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
Is that
a gay porn star or something?
Sorry to be a d!ck, but that was a hilarious typo.
ChillBillinChina - January 10, 2012
thought it was more appropriate
after the way he was playing last night.

WOOF.

I will not watch with the volume on during his broadcasts
I can’t stand him. He’s smart, knows a lot about football and all, it’s his style.
millzners - January 9, 2012
he's drunk (most likely)
letsgopsu - January 9, 2012
He must be...
because without beer this game is utterly unwatchable. Even a decent offense can draw something up to get past midfield on offense!
psu1313 - January 9, 2012
If only
OK State was able to play in this game, they probably could ahve put 30 on lsu by now
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
OK State would get hammered by either of these teams.
Uhaul - January 9, 2012
Sadly
We will never know.
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
I know OK State needed a prayer just to get past Stanford.
And nobody is going to make a reasonable argument that Stanford was anywhere near as good as LSU or Bama.
Uhaul - January 10, 2012
Stanford and Ok State seemed to be equals
Meaning that their offenses and defenses were very similarly run. When that happens the game is much closer and can turn on a single error or such, just like the ’08 PSU OSU game, very similar teams and all was determined by the fumble.

How does that explain Ok State losing to Iowa State?

Just tuned in for 5 minutes
And have already been driven insane by Musberger. Clicky go TV.
Jitterbug - January 9, 2012
Reminder:
Rob Bolden led a TD scoring drive against Alabama. That is all.
PSU_Buch - January 9, 2012
In the 4th quarter
With the same defense starters still in the game for bama, just saying.
Oh and got a 2 point conversion after that td also.
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
you'd think
That two teams that over sign as much as these two do, they’d have at least one good receiver.
Steebo4PSU - January 9, 2012 via iPhone app
Over 7 quarters of football
and no touchdowns.
stevea3 - January 9, 2012
Just got 1
Pretty bad when you score 6 times in a game and only have 21 points
AriesGD - January 9, 2012
Jefferson looks like
Bolden in this game.
Steebo4PSU - January 9, 2012 via iPhone app
In one game, Penn State scored 11 points against Alabama.
In two games and an overtime, LSU only scored nine against the Crimson Tide.
Suck on that!
psu2007 - January 9, 2012
Best "net" result vs Alabama this season
PSU losing by 16 points, Miss St losing by 17 points, LSU losing by 18 points. I’m doubting that will cause the voters to pick us #2 but still an interesting stat.
mundyscorner99 - January 9, 2012
Not a surprising result
If you ignored the points and just looked at the stats from the first game, you’d have thought Alabama won by 10-14 points.
Not a knock on LSU. They beat 3 different teams who won BCS bowl games this year, 2 in genuine road games (@ Alabama and @ WVU) and won a neutralish site game against Oregon. Toss in beating the crap out of Georgia and Arkansas, and you’re talking about one of the most impressive 1 loss teams to ever not win the MNC, even if I think this team would get killed by ’05 PSU.
