Woodford Reserve is a fine choice

But seriously, for only about 15 bucks more per fifth, get yourself a bottle of Blanton’s Single Barrell. That bourbon will change your life.

Had it. Heartily approve.

That’s actually what started my current bourbon spree a few weeks ago. My wife was going to the liquor store and I said to her, “find me the smallest, most expensive bottle of bourbon”. She came back with Blanton’s. It did not last long.

I love Woodford and Knob Creek

but those currently sit in the 2nd tier of Boubon Heaven below OGD 114, Blanton’s, and Evan Williams Single Barrel. Granted, this is a fluid situation and subject to change.

Pretty good, but given what it costs, I’d get some I really love like Old Rip Van Winkle 10 y/o 90 proof. Noah’s Mill is one I have recently become familiar with and it might be #2.

I actually toured the Woodford Reserve distillery.

It’s near Lexington, KY. Walking through there was like swimming in the stuff.

but having lived in TN for 8 years I do enjoy the TN variety of whisky.

I would have to recommend Dickel #12 though over Jack Black. It is usually the same price, if Dickel isn’t cheaper, and much better IMO.

I had relatives in PA that made me run the stuff up here swore by it. In TN the price comparison doesn’t even make it a choice, unless you’re really swayed by Jack having started his distillery a few years earlier. I’ve noticed up north the price comparison is a bit more even… in which case I’d still take Dickel if you can find it.

"with a little branch water"

To quote my grandfather, the only thing to add to a good bourbon is a little branch water (by that he meant a clear running cool stream). Anyhow as an avowed bourbon drinker for a long time (I’m old) a couple of thoughts:

1. Look for “Black Maple Hill” single barrel bourbons; they are either 11, 14, 16. or 21 yrs ; Spirit Journal rates the 21 yr at 5 stars; and all the others at 4 stars; (hows that for some stars?)
2. stay away from the watered down Jack Daniels (80 proof? who are they kidding???)
3. For every day drinking try some Ezra Williams 90 Proof and some nice bite
4. A lot of the other stuff mentioned is pretty good, so as long as it is bourbon, and not scotch, lets have a party!

Jack Daniel's isn't bourbon

It isn’t bad for filtered whiskey, I’ll drink it on a plane if I can’t get bourbon

It doesn't call itself a bourbon

but legally it could. Its being charcoal filtered is certainly unique in the bourbon world, but it does not preclude it from being a bourbon by USDA regulation. It meets all of the grain source, aging, and cutting requirements to call itself a bourbon.
