Food for Thursday: The Thai Soup Trifecta

Friends, Romans, Countrymen, Foodies & Penn State Fans! What a fun week I have had. Last week, whiskey beef fondue, with all of its bold Asian flavors, left me wanting more soy sauce, garlic and spicy chile peppers. So, in the midst of just what might have been the most depressing, boring week in the history of mankind, I made a vat of Thai chicken stock. With that one simple act, my Happy Valley kitchen celebrated what shall hereafter be referred to as: The Week of The Thai Soup Feast. TAKE THAT MARDI GRAS!!!

Is it really Thursday already?

Looks like some good eating right there.

It really is Thursday...

go figure. It comes around every week right about now!

Thats crazy

Pretty soon you will be telling me that Wednesdays are in the middle of the week.

Oh, these are right in my culinary wheelhouse

Thanks for posting these! Now to start making the preparations to make them all…

One Soup Stock... Three soups!

Make a big batch of stock and freeze it!

Oh, this is gettin' done at my house.
Once the stock is made (which isn't hard to do)...

… the soups are a breeze! I truly do hope you make any or all of them!

I'm all about that bisque

but you have to have a King Cake!

and you want the baby in your piece!

and you want the baby in your piece!

That is not what she said.

What does the future hold

if the “baby” is a victim of the cake cutting?

I’m sticking with Fasnachts. No potentional for headless baby bad tidings there.

I thought

That you not supposed to cut the cake for that reason, instead grab pieces off with your hands.

The stock itself sounds great!
Seriously...

… FOR REAL! I’m thinking about making and posting a king cake recipe (I’m a HUGE HBO Treme fan), but, it’s hard to find plastic babies on-line. That being said, if you get the piece of king cake with the baby in it, it means you have to make the cake next year, so, be careful what you wish for!!!

Wanted: source for plastic babies.

Ask and shall recieve

I just ordered a bag full of babies!!!
Why does this make me feel like...

… Fat Bastard???

Was rather surreal

Typing in, miniture plastic babies, into a search.

someone say surreal?
I will be in NOLA in 11 days

it will be too late for this year, but I bet I can pick you up a big bag of those babies pretty cheap!

I did get one years ago. I worked with a woman from NOLA who ordered a King Cake for work every year.

Dinner the first night is at Mr. B.‘s Cafe, one of Brennan’s restaurants. Can’t wait! Most other nights will be conference type food. Blech.

I've been told...

… the same plastic baby gets handed down and passed along from year to year. How much fun is that!?!

I had a Thai roommate who would cook for us sometimes

he made some pretty awesome soup. Might have to try this on my own.

I hope you do...

… I learned “the art of Thai cooking” from a Home Economist from Thailand (who was living here in Happy Valley for a couple of years). I think you will find my recipes and flavor combinations truly authentic!
