If you haven't read Eric's preview, please do so.
Look, we all know that today's rematch between Penn State and Wisconsin is not the top priority for most of us. THON is about to end in just a few minutes (as I type this) and hopefully break the $10 million barrier, and rumors of LIN-SANITY's demise have been greatly exaggerated. However, we cater to more than just "most of us" here at BSD, so here is your obligatory live game thread. Feel free to talk about anything THON-related though as well,
Tipoff is at 4:00 PM ET on BTN (or these local radio affiliates, Sirius Ch 92, XM Ch 191). Same open thread rules apply (no porn/racism/sexism/homophobia/trolling, no links to illegal video feeds).

The boys are on fire in the first half on the road as usual.
PSUinBOSSton - February 19, 2012
On a positive note:
THON just broke the $10 million barrier for the first time ever. ($10,686,924.83)
Tim Aydin - February 19, 2012
About what I expected so far
Not a good thing.
psfann - February 19, 2012
At least we are over 20 points.
That is a positive, especially for on the road.
AriesGD - February 19, 2012
Guess we still ahven't figured out how to
AriesGD - February 19, 2012
Defend behind the arch
Original post fail on that one
AriesGD - February 19, 2012
Sigh
TheSwish - February 19, 2012
Nice little run here
Hopefully the boys can sustin it.
AriesGD - February 19, 2012
apparently two minutes of Wisconsin not dominating is enough for the refs to decide they need to step in and try to kill the momentum
PSUCharmas - February 19, 2012 via mobile
however this ends up
This second half is something to be proud of, and just more evidence that if this team could shoot 30% (!) in a first half it could hang with most teams in the conference
PSUCharmas - February 19, 2012 via mobile
Also shows
What we can expect with a few recruits of Chambers picking.
AriesGD - February 19, 2012
I thought the refs were fine in the first half
But they strongly asserted themselves in Wisconsin’s favor in the second. Gotta make sure Wisconsin has good seeding after all.
PSUCharmas - February 19, 2012 via mobile
i was thinking the same thing. just to make a few more shots consistently in the first half would really change these games.
willisJ - February 19, 2012
This game is backing up my hairbrained theory
that if PSU is within 8 at the 10 minute mark of the first half, they will be within 5 or 6 with 5 or 6 minutes left and have a chance to win, even against a top 20 team on the road. If they aren’t, just forget about it.
PSU was down 6 with 10 minutes in
ckmneon - February 19, 2012
Some of those FT's and lay ups
We missed in the first half are coming back to kill us. I love the effort in the second half though
coop_sauce - February 19, 2012
Is anything more frustrating
than their center hitting treys? Berggren is so soft inside, but is killing us with 3’s. Tough to defend
coop_sauce - February 19, 2012
We let them have their way beyond the arch
Which really hurt us, all day.
AriesGD - February 19, 2012
They made a few shots they probably shouldn't have
PSU missed a few shots they should have made. Wisconsin got a few offensive rebounds that took weird bounces when PSU had superior position. That was the difference in the game. The officiating was fine. It was standard homecourt advantage stuff.
ckmneon - February 19, 2012
No Big Macs for their fans
At least they don’t get free Big Macs after the game. (Knowing how Wisconsin plays McDonald’s might make the deal happen at 40 points in Madison.)

Dinsdale - February 19, 2012
the walk-on guard, coletta or whatever his name is should never be allowed to shoot a 3 pointer, ever again
.he looked terrible again today shooting the 3. Even the 6’11" hunchback from Wisconsin made shooting 3’s look easy today.
Slawsc - February 19, 2012
Thank you!!
Finally someone gets it. Nick Colella is an awful shooter, and yet he feels the need to shoot 3’s from NBA range. He is easily one of the 2 or 3 worst guards in the conference.
Eric Gibson and ckmneon, are you still huge Colella fans?
Since our discussion on Colella’s shooting, he has gone 3 of 11. Not only that, but he gets pulled for defense in late game situations. Rather odd for “one of, if not the, best one-on-one defenders” on the team. Furthermore it appears playing more minutes has had no effect on Colella’s extraordinary lack of shooting touch. Colella has played major minutes in his last 5 games (29 min+) and he is shooting the Colella special — 28%.

GGNC
TheSwish - February 19, 2012
Yes.
He’s toned it down since Nebraska and generally is still taking good shots. He shouldn’t have forced that last brick towards the end of the game, though.
I don’t know why you’re on this rampage against Colella because he’s a former walk-on. The whole team is devoid of a reliable shooter. He’s shooting better from 3 than Tim Frazier in conference play. Woodyard on the road has shown himself to be worthless. And Matt Glover hasn’t hit a three since December 4th.
Colella, for better or worse, has proven himself to at least be a threat. That alone does wonders for our spacing when compared to Glover.
Eric Gibson - February 20, 2012
has glover
shot the ball since decenmber 4th? never looks for his own offense, can’t wait to see what newbill can do with frazier, and with lewis back we should have a very strengthened back court, and maybe we can give ol timmy a bit of a rest for the last minute of the half every game
ktd5048 - February 20, 2012
Glover had a three rim out
against Iowa on Thursday.
Too bad. If that had gone in, it would have built confidence.
TonyLion - February 20, 2012
My guess is these guys can shoot the lights out
in practice.
We always heard that about Oliver, but when it came to game time, one brick after
another. He finally found his stroke during a game this year – Purdue.
We all watched Matt Gatens light it up in the second half Thursday. He did it again yesterday against Indiana. He’s a senior who has started a lot of games. Never been to the post season. I hope he makes it to the NIT at least.
Cam Woodyard is also a senior, but this is his first year starting. If they can shoot in practice that’s one thing, but it is quite a leap to calmly and coolly find the bottom of the net in a game. The whole confidence thing is also related to the disparity, between home and away eFG %age.
When you get to where Frazer is where the venue or game doesn’t matter, that’s when you’ll see results. Talor Battle was there early in his career. Matt Gatens is there too.
TonyLion - February 20, 2012
Narrow-minded
I am on a rampage against Colella because you have stated you think he should be playing valuable minutes next year, when he has shown time after time he is not a B10 talent. I am not sure how a guy that shoots 27% from beyond the arc is a threat. Teams are begging him to shoot the 3.
btress - February 20, 2012
I never said Colella should be playing valuable minutes next year.
I defended him after your overly negative perspective on his game which had to have been based on one game. He’s made valuable contributions this conference season on both ends of the floor. I don’t know how you’ve drawn the conclusion teams are begging him to shoot considering he’s pump-faked at least 5 guys off the ground. They know his only threat is the 3 point shot. Is he a good shooter? Not particularly. He’s streaky just like everyone else on this roster.
I’m curious to know your opinion on Chambers playing him over Trey Lewis (before he got hurt) and now Jermaine Marshall if he doesn’t belong at this level. I also look forward to your criticism if Chambers rewards him with a scholarship after this season.
Eric Gibson - February 20, 2012
You honestly think I am being overly negative?
The guy is consistently shooting below 30% no matter how you want to splice his statistics. How do I know teams want him to shoot it? Because he stands on the wing, never moves, and yet is still consistenly open for lazy passes. Teams don’t respect him until he gets the ball and even then know they can jump wildly at him with little to no risk of being beaten off the dribble.
If you go back to my original post I said that I hope Colella keeps his scholarship, but that I hope he never plays because he flat out cannot shoot. He continues to prove he is a gigantic liability on offense and gets pulled out of the game late for defense. Considering this, I think my original statement was pretty fair.
At the end of the day, I like his energy and believe he is a good teammate, so I hope he keeps his scholarship for practice purposes. It is obvious Chambers values his effort. My hope (and I hope yours) is that Penn State basketball quickly elevates to a level where guys like Nick Colella don’t play 10+ minutes.
btress - February 20, 2012
Yes.
You’re being completely unfair to the kid in my mind. I have no idea why other than the fact that he still carries the walk-on reputation. It’s like since he’s playing as a walk-on, he needs to shoot 45% to earn it in your eyes.
He’s another inexperienced, streaky shooter on a team filled with them. Where’s the hate for the rest of the team? None of them have really been better than the others (except Woodyard in the BJC). You came at Colella HARD after he averaged he shot 40%+ in the toughest 5 game stretch on the schedule. It was kind of ridiculous. Now, he’s in a 3-game slump. That’s what happens, especially in what is essentially his freshman year.
Did you say Talor Battle couldn’t shoot during his freshman campaign? He shot 28.4% on the season.
Eric Gibson - February 20, 2012
dear mods,
why isn’t there a scoreboard posted after the games anymore? that used to be my go-to to find the score. it was so convenient to just see the score by half and the final posted after the game on the front page. did sb nation screw that up for us? finding the score is hard enough to do when we’re buried down the rankings.
c’mon bsd! we’re better than this!
