Yes, deplorable as the Giants and Patriots may be, it's the last meaningful football until August. Here's your open thread for the Super BOBowl. WE GET OUR COACH FOR REALZ TOMORROW, YOU GUYS!
A little late on this, but here's an open thread for those of you watching at home or online. The memorial service is available a number of places online, including BigTenNetwork.com and ESPN 3, and televised on the Big Ten Network. Feel free to add more links and locations in the comments.
[UPDATE: Penn State is now reporting the death of Coach Paterno.]
What an emotional roller coaster ride yesterday was, am I right? I won't get into my personal feelings on what happened (though if you follow me on Twitter, you can likely put it together). For now, let's continue to monitor the situation and pray for our beloved Coach Paterno.
Sources that I consider very reliable, which seems to be a misnomer anymore, confirmed to me last night that the end isn't far off. We know Joe is surrounded by friends, family and loved ones of all kinds. We have no interest in breaking this story, but will certainly have news updates when credible information is released, either by our own sources or by actual members of the Paterno family.
Stay strong, Coach.
With the previous thread bound for over 900 comments, here's another for you to keep each other company overnight. It's been a strange, sad night in many ways, for many people. Let's continue to focus on thinking good thoughts for Joe Paterno and his family. Remember that he's more than a football coach -- he's a husband, father, and grandfather to people who are bravely going through this with him.
It's time for another classic hoops brouhaha between Penn State and Illinois, and since words don't do the recent history behind this series justice, I leave you with a YouTube montage below...Oh, btw, the game's at 9:00 PM ET on ESPN2 (or if you don't have a TV, there's always Sirius Ch 135, XM Ch 193, or your local radio affiliate), and the usual open thread rules apply (which I really don't feel like writing out at the moment). Enjoy.

It's Penn State! It's Minnesota! It's two Big Ten bottom-feeders whose lone conference wins have been of the WTF variety! PSU of course, had their 20-point shellacking of Purdue the other week, while Minnesota is coming fresh off a narrow upset at Indiana. By the end of today, one of these teams will have jumped up a notch in the Big Ten standings and carry a little momentum going forward.
If you haven't read Eric's awesome preview of this game, please do so. Otherwise, tip off is at 4:00 PM ET at the BJC and can be seen on TV via BTN. For those of you unable to watch, there's always Steve Jones and Dick Jerardi calling the action via the Penn State Sports Network (Sirius Ch 92, XM Ch 191, or one of these local affiliates).
Standard open thread rules apply: No porn, no racism/sexism/homophobia/trolling/death threats, and no links to illegal video streams of the game.
How many teams get to see their newly-hired head coach in action a week after getting the job. For those of you like me who aren't big NFL fans, we get to see just what kind of offense Bill O'Brien calls for New England. And for the rest of you, also like me, who previously had a less-than-amicable relationship with the Pats... well, let's suck it up and cheer for #PSUBOB.
Standard open thread rules. But especially today--for obvious OMLASJCTEBOW reasons--keep religion OUT of this thread. We will be watching, so think about your comments before posting them, please.
